Assam: Cash, jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh stolen in daylight burglary in Dibrugarh
Unidentified burglars allegedly decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh after breaking into a house in broad daylight at Khowang in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Saturday, July 4, police said.
The house belongs to Bulanta Maut, president of the police station-level Citizens' Committee, who was away with his wife attending a funeral in a nearby village when the burglary took place.
According to the family, the couple left their residence at around 11.40 a.m. Taking advantage of their absence, the burglars allegedly broke open the main door and entered the house. They then forced open two steel almirahs and stole Rs 50,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at around Rs 10 lakh.
The theft came to light at around 1.20 p.m. after local residents noticed two unidentified persons leaving the house and informed the family. On returning home, the couple found the house ransacked and valuables missing.
Police later visited the spot and initiated an investigation. Efforts are under way to identify the accused and recover the stolen property.
