Assam: Centre to enhance women's safety in BTR launched in Kokrajhar

The Sakhi One Stop Centre was inaugurated at the Balajan Primary Health Centre (BPHC) Campus, in Kokrajhar, on August 31, aiming to bolster the security and welfare of women in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Rajya Sabha MP, Rwngra Narzary officially launched the centre, in a bid to provide comprehensive support to women affected by violence.

The inauguration of the Sakhi One Stop Centre is a clear reflection of BTR’s commitment to safeguarding women and providing them with the necessary resources and support in times of need.

The initiative will serve as a centralised hub where women can access a range of integrated services under one roof, including emergency medical care, legal assistance, police support, counselling, and temporary shelter.

The inaugural event was attended by important figures, including Gautam Das, Executive Member (EM) of the BTC Women & Child Development Department, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradip Kumar Dwivedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kabita Deka, Secretary of the Women & Child Development Department Jatin Bora, and other distinguished dignitaries and officials.

During his speech, MP Rwngra Narzary emphasised the importance of the One Stop Centre, noting its role as a crucial resource for survivors of violence.

"This centre will act as a sanctuary for women in distress, providing them with immediate and essential services in one location," Narzary stated.
