Assam: Chaos at Boko Polyclinic after alleged medical negligence leads to woman's death

Tensions flared at the Boko Polyclinic and Research Centre after a 45-year-old woman, Himani Kalita, from Sishapith village, died following allegations of medical negligence. The incident has sparked an outcry from the patient's family, who claim the staff failed to provide adequate care.

According to the patient's attendants, the clinic staff only informed them that the patient should be transferred to the ICU. However, when the family was directed to take the patient to the nearby Kalyani Hospital, they expressed concerns, citing a recent case where a patient allegedly died due to medical negligence at Kalyani. As a result, the family decided to take the patient to a hospital in Guwahati instead.

The deceased's son-in-law, speaking to the media, shared the family's distress: "We arrived around 1:30 pm, and the staff immediately put an oxygen mask on her, saying her condition was critical. She had no previous illnesses other than diarrhea. They suggested we move her to an ICU, and even mentioned that we could take her to Kalyani Hospital nearby, but we chose to go to Guwahati instead."

The family claims that no doctor attended to the patient for over three hours, and the patient tragically passed away at 5:00 pm. The situation has raised serious concerns regarding the hospital’s handling of the case and has prompted calls for an investigation into the alleged negligence.
