Assam: Chaos during Bihu celebrations after scuffle breaks out between artist, and event organiser in Bajali

What was meant to be a vibrant cultural evening turned into a scene of chaos at the Rongali Bihu celebrations in Choukhuti, Bajali, after an alleged altercation broke out on stage between a performer and a member of the organizing committee.

According to eyewitnesses, vocalist Dhanoti Das was at the centre of the incident. Tensions reportedly escalated after the artist failed to perform on time and as scheduled, prompting a heated confrontation. In the ensuing scuffle, musical instruments were thrown off the stage, disrupting the event and alarming attendees.

The program was organized by Choukhuti Bhatri Sangha as part of their annual Bihu celebrations. So far, the organizing committee has not released an official statement, although allegations of alcohol consumption by the artist have surfaced.

Despite the lack of formal clarification, the incident has drawn widespread criticism from the local community. Residents and cultural enthusiasts have condemned the episode, calling it deeply disrespectful to the spirit of Bihu and the cultural values it upholds.
