Chirang Police arrested five thieves from Madhya Pradesh involved in the largest burglary in the history of Bongaigaon Refinery Township, Dhaligaon. The arrested individuals, all hailing from Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, have been identified as Guddu Mahoniya (30), Patal Singh (33), Gangu (29), Chhotu (29), and Ganpat alias Ganesh (39).
The criminals executed a daring heist on the night of July 21, looting gold, silver, and cash worth ₹2.5 crore from 14 houses within the high-security refinery township. The incident left officials and residents shocked, questioning the breach of the refinery’s tight security measures.
Two months after the incident, Chirang Police's efforts led to the arrest of the notorious gang, easing tensions among refinery employees. The employees' union expressed gratitude for the arrests but urged further investigation to identify any additional culprits and recover the stolen valuables.
