Assam: Clash erupts after boat race in Boko, 1 injured

A two-day traditional boat racing competition in Assam's Boko, held at Jaukata village, turned violent after supporters from the competing teams began their victory celebrations on August 5. The celebrations quickly escalated into heated arguments in which one person was severely injured. 

 

The fierce competition held between Doyal Bhorokha and Rajmata Boats, in which the latter clinched the title.  

 

However, a conflict occurred when a Rajmata boatman attacked a Doyal Bhorokha supporter with his boat sailing stick, resulting in serious injury.

 

The injured individual, Yusuf Ali from Arikati village, was rushed to Sontoli Primary Health Center for medical treatment. 

 

Boko Police immediately reached the spot to control the situation and restore order.

 

The traditional boat race, which drew significant local interest, was inaugurated by Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed. No statements from officials have come to fore.
