In his New Year’s press conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that it will now be compulsory for the government in the state to learn a regional language, in addition to Assamese.
“If one joins ACS or APS, he/she must learn a language other than Assamese. It may be Boro, Mising, or even Karbi. But I have to learn a regional language because when we go to these places we are not able to work”.
The initiative aims to promote linguistic diversity and improve communication within Assam’s multicultural society.
