Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 3 affirmed the state government’s full support for the Government of India’s efforts to implement a simplified and pro-business Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
Addressing the media, CM Sarma said, “We are supporting the move of the Prime Minister. Some views will be to lower GST to 5% and 18%. Two slaps, so that will be our position. We are going to support the initiative of the Government of India completely. Our Finance Minister is there in the meeting. We will support that whatever our Prime Minister has said, that should be implemented.”
The Chief Minister emphasised that Assam stands firmly with the Centre in streamlining GST rates, indicating the state’s backing for the proposed revisions aimed at easing compliance and boosting business growth.
The statement comes amid nationwide discussions on revising GST slabs to make taxation more transparent and business-friendly, reflecting the Centre’s push for economic reforms and ease of doing business.
