Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a high-level field inspection today at Charuwabakhra, Santoshpur, and Chirakuta in Bilasipara, where land has been earmarked for the establishment of a Rs 20,000 crore thermal power project. The Chief Minister arrived by helicopter, landing at the playground of Shalkocha Higher Secondary School, and was accompanied by Minister Prashanta Phukan amid tight security.
The inspection comes following a prior survey conducted on April 22 by a 13-member delegation from the Adani Group, including Jeet Adani, son of industrialist Gautam Adani. The state government has allocated approximately 3,500 bighas of land across Santoshpur, Charuwabakhra, Chirakuta, and other parts of the Chapar revenue circle for the ambitious power project.
Following his assessment of the site, CM Sarma addressed the media and reassured residents that the project will be implemented in a peaceful and lawful manner. He specifically assured that the historic Tilapara burial ground will be preserved, and patta landholders will not face eviction or displacement.
Speaking on political developments, Dr. Sarma confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections, scheduled for September, independently, without alliances.
The Chief Minister also issued a sharp rebuttal to recent remarks by former MP Abdul Khaleque. “There is no gain in constantly chanting ‘Hindu Hindu’. Even in Muslim-majority areas, the BJP has secured eight district council seats. What people are witnessing now is only the beginning. The 2026 Assembly elections will witness a political tsunami,” he asserted confidently.
