Assam chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, July 20 performed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the expansion of the Purabi Dairy plant in Guwahati. The project, being implemented in partnership with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), is part of a broader initiative to enhance the state's milk processing infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, CM Sarma said, “In Assam, we decided three years ago that we would produce 10 lakh litres of milk for daily processing. Today, we are here for the Bhumi Pujan, under which NDDB will increase the milk processing capacity of this plant to 3 lakh litres.”
He further announced that the Assam Government and NDDB are collaboratively working on establishing new milk processing units in Silchar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and other strategic locations. These expansions are projected to transform Assam’s dairy sector over the next few years.
“I am fully confident that in the next 3-4 years, Assam will have a daily milk processing capacity of 10 lakh litres,” the Chief Minister said.
"We are going to provide Rs 5/per litre of milk produced by our cooperatives. This scheme will directly benefit 20,000 farmers, and I am very happy that Assam has launched a new scheme with a specific goal of increasing milk production. This subsidy scheme will definitely contribute to increasing the total milk production in our state, and I am confident that Assam will achieve this goal in a very short period of time", added CM Sarma further.
