Assam CM visits flood relief camp in Golaghat, assures timely aid and erosion control measures

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the flood relief camp at Simaluchapori LP School in Sarupathar under Golaghat district to assess the situation and interact with the flood-affected residents.

During the visit, the Chief Minister took stock of ongoing relief operations and directed the District Commissioner to promptly conduct a detailed survey of the damages and initiate compensation procedures for affected families. He also visited a special medical camp set up within the relief centre and instructed healthcare teams to provide enhanced medical attention, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, elderly citizens, and children.

Interacting with local residents, the Chief Minister said, “Throughout the flood situation, I remained in touch with the District Commissioner and the local MLA. Today, I came here personally to listen to the concerns of the people.”

Responding to demands for erosion control in the region, Dr. Sarma assured timely intervention. “People have urged for immediate erosion control, and I will initiate necessary measures very soon,” he added.

Addressing public health concerns in the aftermath of flooding, Dr. Sarma noted that although waterborne diseases are common during such times, the current situation is under control. “Doctors have confirmed that there is no immediate health threat. There’s no cause for alarm at this moment,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also touched upon encroachment-related issues and announced that a forest department team would soon arrive to inspect the area. “Once the department submits its report, we will engage with local stakeholders, including the MLA, to determine the necessary course of action,” he said.
