Assam CM visits flood relief camp in Hailakandi as over 5.6 lakh affected statewide

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday reviewed conditions at a flood relief camp in Hailakandi, where hundreds of displaced residents have taken shelter. The visit comes as the state battles severe flooding that has impacted more than 5.6 lakh people across 19 districts.

Sarma confirmed that the government has deployed fully equipped medical teams to support the health needs of those in the camps. "We are providing all necessary facilities," he stated on social media after inspecting the situation on the ground.

The Chief Minister also received updates from other severely affected relief camps in Kalinagar and Panchgram, reiterating the administration’s commitment to assist those hit hardest by the crisis.

While floodwaters have started to recede in some areas like Morigaon, the district still reports 117 villages underwater, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

In Sribhumi, flooding has disrupted daily life, inundating homes and commercial properties. The situation remains critical in places like Baatgram in North Sribhumi, where extensive damage to infrastructure and property has been reported.

Authorities continue to monitor the evolving conditions and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing.
