Assam: Coal mine fire sparks emergency response in Patkai Hills

A major fire erupted at Deep Mining in Ledo, Patkai Hills on February 5 evening, prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities.

Fire tenders and Ledo police rushed to the scene as flames engulfed sections of the mining area. Local residents claim the blaze may have originated from stockpiles of allegedly illegal coal at the site.

The Patkai Hills, known for their rich coal deposits and mining heritage dating back to colonial times, have recently faced scrutiny over unauthorised mining activities in the region.

Authorities are currently working to contain the fire and assess potential environmental and safety risks. The extent of damage and exact cause remains under investigation.
