Assam Congress holds march, Satyagraha against ‘purification’ of Kharge meeting venue

The Guwahati Metropolitan District Congress Committee organised a padyatra and Satyagraha in Guwahati on August 14 in protest against the alleged discriminatory act of “purifying” with Gangajal the venue in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had recently addressed a party meeting.

The protest was organised in solidarity with Kharge and against what the Congress described as a discriminatory and condemnable act.

Addressing the gathering, Jorhat Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said those in power should not assume that political power would remain permanent. He said that regardless of the use of administrative or police power, the Congress would continue to raise issues concerning constitutional rights.

Gogoi said the party would remain committed to defending the Constitution, democracy and justice and would continue to raise its voice against what it considers discriminatory practices.

Congress leader Mira Borthakur was also present during the protest.

The Congress said its commitment to democracy, constitutional values and justice would remain firm and reiterated that it would continue to stand against discrimination and defend the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
