Assam Congress leader hails Indian Army’s strike on Pakistan-based terror camps

Working President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, extended strong support to the Indian Army following the surgical strike under Operation Sindoor. He called for continued military action against terrorism until every terrorist in Pakistan is eliminated.

Sikdar issued a powerful statement lauding the armed forces and backing the nation’s right to self-defence.

Speaking to reporters, Sikdar emphasised that terrorism must be rooted out entirely and asserted that the country should not hesitate to escalate its military response if provoked again.

“Sontrosbadik damon koribo lage. Sontrosbadik nipat koribo lage,” Sikdar said in Assamese, meaning "Terrorists must be suppressed. Terrorists must be destroyed." He congratulated the Indian Army for its bold and precise action, expressing pride in their dedication and sacrifices. “Moi Bharatiya Sena Bahinik subhechha jonaicho. Teolokor tyagok homoy srodhha janau,” he added, conveying his gratitude and respect to the soldiers.

Sikdar further remarked that any terrorist keeping an eye on Indian soil must be eliminated without mercy. He strongly advocated for a sustained campaign against Pakistan-based terror outfits, stating, “Until every terrorist in Pakistan is eliminated, India must continue its war against terror.” He did not shy away from suggesting a broader military campaign, calling on the Government of India to consider a formal declaration of war against Pakistan if it continues to shelter and support terrorist groups.

In an emotionally charged statement, Sikdar expressed his willingness to personally take part in the defence of the nation. “As a citizen of India, I too wish to join this war if needed. Even if I have to sacrifice my life for Mother India, every terrorist must be destroyed,” he said.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid rising nationalistic sentiments following the cross-border operation, which has been widely praised for its precision and planning. Operation Sindoor is believed to have targeted key terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan-occupied territory, causing significant damage to groups operating against India.

Sikdar's support is seen as part of a rare moment of political unity on matters of national security, especially from a senior state-level leader of the opposition. His unambiguous backing of the Army and call for firm action against Pakistan may resonate strongly with the public mood.

He concluded his statement by reaffirming his confidence in the Indian Army and calling Pakistan's position weak and unsustainable in the face of India’s military capabilities. “In front of the strength and strategy of our forces, Pakistan will fall apart within 24 hours,” he asserted.
