Assam: Congress ticket race peaks in Chamaria as MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed leads massive procession

As the countdown to the Assembly elections begins, Assam’s political landscape is witnessing a surge in grassroots mobilisation and competitive jockeying for party nominations. On the final day of Congress ticket applications, the newly created Chamaria Assembly constituency emerged as a major centre of political activity, marked by a massive show of strength by senior party leaders and aspirants.

Chamaria, designated as the 27th Assembly constituency and dominated by minority voters, has seen an unprecedented rush of Congress ticket seekers in recent days. The closing day for application submissions on Monday witnessed heightened enthusiasm, with party offices abuzz and supporters turning out in large numbers.

In a high-profile political move, three-time Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed led a grand procession to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati to formally submit his nomination papers. The procession, which began from Goraimari, featured hundreds of vehicles decorated with Congress flags, banners, and placards, transforming the route into a display of political strength and organisational reach.

Prior to the journey, Ahmed addressed a large gathering at Goraimari Rajiv Bhavan, where he sought the blessings and support of party workers and local residents. Leaders and workers from eight mandals under the Chamaria Block Congress and eleven mandals under the Goraimari Block Congress joined the march, underscoring widespread backing across organisational units.

Adding to the visual spectacle, cultural troupes accompanied the procession, while enthusiastic supporters raised slogans and waved party flags, lending the event the feel of a celebratory political rally. Throughout the journey to Guwahati, Ahmed received a warm reception from Congress workers and members of the public at various locations.

Political observers note that the event not only reflects the intensifying competition for Congress tickets in the newly formed Chamaria constituency but also highlights the party’s efforts to demonstrate unity, organisational strength, and voter connect ahead of the crucial Assembly polls.
