Assam constructs major convention centre with 5,000 seats in Guwahati, completion by 2025
Assam is constructing one of Eastern India’s largest convention centres. The facility will have a seating capacity of 5,000 people.
The convention centre is expected to be completed by early 2025.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after inspecting the progress of the work, took to his X handle and wrote, "We want to establish Guwahati as the preferred venue for national and international exhibitions. Assam is building one of Eastern India’s largest convention centres with a 5,000 seating capacity. This should be ready by early 2025."
To ensure the highest quality, CM Sarma also proposed forming a committee of ten eminent artists from Assam’s cultural fraternity.
CM Sarma directed the construction company and PWD (Bldg) to complete the project within the stipulated timeline, addressing a key cultural and infrastructural need for Guwahati.

Earlier on August 12, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) for promoting 'Jihad' and said that a 5,000-seat auditorium in Khanapara. This aims to provide an alternative venue and reduce future reliance on the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).
Further intensifying his critique, Sarma argued that the university’s construction practices have negatively impacted Guwahati’s landscape. “They have cut the entire mountain and destroyed Guwahati. The USTM is doing 'jihad' there and harming the future of our students,” he claimed.
Sarma also defended his own actions, clarifying that his visit to USTM was at the request of Jayanta Baruah during a visit by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
