Assam: Contractor's poor quality work leads to road collapse Bajali

The recent construction of a paved road in Halangbari, Bajali, has quickly turned into a controversy as just 2 days after its completion, the road collapsed, raising questions about the quality of work done by the contractor.

The newly paved road, built on top of dust, faced immediate challenges as its structural integrity failed within a short span. This development has sparked criticism from the public, who have accused both the contractor and departmental authorities of extreme negligence in overseeing the project.

"They have pitched the road on top of dust and now it's broken. If the authorities work like this what will happen to us?", questioned a local.

"None of the contractors comes to visit and see the construction that they did, the condition we are in", he adds.

One of the key concerns highlighted by locals is the frequent use of overloaded dumpers on the road, contributing to its deterioration. Residents have expressed alarm over the speed at which these overloaded vehicles traverse the road, exacerbating the infrastructure's strain and posing risks to public safety.

The public outcry has also raised questions about the oversight and approval processes that allowed subpar work to be carried out, leading to significant financial losses and inconveniences for the community. Many are questioning the accountability of the contractor and seeking answers regarding the standards followed during the road construction.

The road project falls under the jurisdiction of the PWD division in Baksa district, adding another layer of scrutiny to the authorities responsible for ensuring quality and adherence to regulations in such infrastructure initiatives.

"We don't know who the contractor is, we haven't seen him", commented another local resident.

Amidst these developments, there is growing anticipation regarding the response of departmental authorities and the broader government framework. The incident has fueled demands for swift and transparent actions to rectify the situation and hold accountable those responsible for the construction debacle.
