Assam: Daughter of street vendor shines in HSLC exams with 89 per cent, scores perfect 100 in Bengali

In an inspiring display of perseverance and determination, Sharmila Sinha, a student of Patharkandi Government Model Higher Secondary School, has emerged as a shining example of how poverty is no obstacle to academic excellence.

Hailing from Narainpur village in the Patharkandi constituency of Sri Bhumi district, Sharmila comes from a humble background. Her father, Milon Sinha, runs a modest fast food stall, while her mother, Shanti Sinha, is a homemaker. Despite the family's limited means and lack of access to private tuition, Sharmila secured an impressive 89% in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination this year.

What makes her achievement even more remarkable is her performance in the Bengali language subject, in which she secured a perfect score of 100 out of 100, becoming one of only five students in the state to attain this distinction.

Sharmila’s mother tongue is Manipuri, making her excellence in Bengali even more noteworthy. She balanced her studies with household responsibilities and regularly assisted her father at his food stall, exemplifying dedication and resilience.

Looking ahead, the ambitious student plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Arts (B.A.), with a long-term goal of appearing for the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations, aiming to serve society through public administration.

Sharmila's outstanding results have brought pride and joy to her family, school, and community, reinforcing the belief that with focus, hard work, and self-belief, no dream is too big, regardless of one’s circumstances.
