Numal Momin, the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, paid a visit to the Margherita Buddhist Vihar as part of his personal itinerary on April 3. His arrival was marked by a warm and traditional reception, where he was honored with an Assamese phoolam gamosa, a traditional Tai Phakey gamosa, and a special memento from the Vihar authorities.
During his visit, Dr. Momin actively participated in the religious rituals of the Vihar. He lit candles and incense sticks, offering his prayers before the statue of Lord Buddha, reflecting his deep reverence for the spiritual and cultural significance of the site. The serene ambiance of the Vihar left a lasting impression on the Deputy Speaker, who expressed his appreciation for the peaceful environment and the efficient management of the institution.
The Head Monk of Margherita Buddhist Vihar, Gyanowada Bhikkhu, took the opportunity to discuss the potential of the Vihar as a tourism hub and urged Dr. Momin to support initiatives for its development. Given the historical and cultural richness of the monastery, the Head Monk emphasized the importance of promoting it as a spiritual and heritage destination for visitors from across the region and beyond.
Numal Momin acknowledged the significance of the request and assured that steps would be taken to explore possibilities for enhancing the tourism and cultural prominence of the Margherita Buddhist Vihar. His visit underscored the growing recognition of Assam's diverse heritage, reinforcing the role of Buddhist sites in promoting peace, cultural exchange, and tourism development.
