Assam: Despite restrictions, broiler chicken syndicate continues unabated in Bongaigaon, Goalpara via water routes

Despite the state government’s restrictions on the sale and consumption of broiler chicken due to rising cases of Avian Influenza, traders are transporting and importing broiler chickens right under the nose of the administration.

Huge quantities of broiler chicken are being supplied via the Brahmaputra River in Bongaigaon despite the government’s blanket ban on broiler chicken in the region.

Earlier, traders would supply broiler chickens via roads, however, this time they have chosen the water route to continue their trade.

Banned broiler chicken is being supplied daily from Dhubri to Misinpur Ghat in Jaleswar, and Pareeswar in Goalpara by not just two but four or five mechanized boats.

It is worth mentioning that this broiler chicken enters Assam’s Dhubri district from the neighbouring state of West Bengal and the supply is being carried out by a section of unscrupulous elements.
