Assam: Devotional fervour marks Maha Shivaratri fair at Sivasagar's historic Sivadol

Thousands of devotees thronged the historic Sivadol temple complex in Sivasagar as a four-day Maha Shivaratri Puja and fair commenced with traditional fervour, transforming the sacred site into a vibrant hub of faith and festivity.

Organised under the initiative of the Sivadol Development Council, the annual Maha Shivaratri celebrations began with elaborate rituals and spiritual observances, drawing pilgrims from across Assam and neighbouring regions.

On the second day of the festivities, the main entrance gate of the temple was opened at 4:00 am, allowing streams of devotees to enter the premises in the early hours. From dawn, worshippers queued up to offer prayers and perform rituals dedicated to Lord Mahadev.

Devotees were seen lighting earthen lamps, chanting hymns, and participating in special pujas, seeking divine blessings on the auspicious occasion. The temple premises echoed with devotional songs and the ringing of bells, while the adjoining fair added to the festive atmosphere with stalls and community participation.

Authorities and organisers have put in place necessary arrangements to manage the large gathering and ensure the smooth conduct of the four-day religious event.
