Assam DGP reviews policing in Barak Valley, emphasises citizen-centric approach

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh, during his two-day visit to Barak Valley, reviewed the functioning of the police in Hailakandi, Karimganj, and Cachar districts.

Following the review, Singh told reporters that a comprehensive assessment of the police system and its citizen-centric initiatives has been carried out.

He added that Assam has now moved away from being a state plagued by insurgency and having a police force formed only to counter it, towards a vision of serving citizens in line with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s outlook.

On being asked about vacancies in the Assam Police, the DGP clarified that there are currently no vacant posts.

He further said that the department is actively monitoring illegal infiltration, which is regularly highlighted in the chief minister’s updates on social media.
