Assam: Dhubri DC leads early-morning ‘foot-walk’ drive against encroachment, illegal parking

Senior officials of the Dhubri district administration on February 1, undertook an early-morning “foot-walk” inspection along the Dhubri–Kachugaon road to identify encroachment on government land and curb illegal roadside parking.

The drive was led by District Commissioner Nabadip Pathak, who, along with a multi-departmental team, walked from the BOC point towards Gauripur to conduct a detailed, ground-level assessment of government Khas land and public thoroughfares.

The inspection team comprised all Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) of the district, officials from the Dhubri Municipal Board, the Land Revenue Circle and the Public Works Department (PWD), technical teams from the Electricity Department and Disaster Management, as well as the District Transport Officer (DTO) and enforcement personnel.

During the inspection, officials identified several cases of unauthorised occupation of government land, with particular attention on vehicles illegally parked on roadside Khas areas. Officials said such practices have been contributing to traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.

District Transport Officer Dibyajyoti Karji imposed spot fines on multiple vehicles found parked illegally on government property and warned that roadside Khas land is strictly meant for public utility purposes, not for private vehicle storage or commercial extension.

Officials said the foot-walk method was adopted to ensure a closer examination of encroachments that are often overlooked during routine vehicle-based inspections. The exercise aimed to identify illegal permanent and temporary structures, clear road shoulders for smoother traffic flow and disaster preparedness, and coordinate with concerned departments to ensure public infrastructure remains unaffected.

The district administration said similar drives would continue as part of its efforts to safeguard government land and maintain public order.
