The Dhubri Forest Department conducted a raid on Thursday and dismantled an unauthorized timber mill operating in the Piyanjbari area, including Top Para and Jhowpara.
The operation was led by Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Chakrapani Roy, under directives from the Dhubri Forest Division. During the raid, officials seized various machinery used for timber processing and a large quantity of illegally sourced wooden poles from the premises.
Despite the successful seizure, several individuals suspected of being involved in the illegal timber trade managed to flee the scene before authorities could apprehend them.
Forest officials have confirmed that a full investigation is underway to track down the absconding suspects and further uncover the network behind the timber smuggling racket.
The raid underscores the Forest Department’s ongoing commitment to combat deforestation and protect the region’s natural resources from unlawful exploitation.
