In an announcement on the microblogging site X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared updates on the ongoing construction of the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge, touted to be India's longest river bridge. The Chief Minister stated the transformative impact of this infrastructural marvel on the connectivity and economic prospects of the North East region.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the unprecedented connectivity boost in the North East, attributing it to the visionary policies of the Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ongoing work on the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge is a crucial component of this strategy.
The absence of a bridge connecting Assam and Meghalaya over the Brahmaputra River has long been a significant challenge for the region. However, the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge, with a width of 12.2 meters and a length of about 19 kilometers, is set to resolve this issue, offering a vital lifeline between Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya.
Initiated in 2011, the construction of the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge is expected to conclude by 2024. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) is spearheading the project, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,997 crore. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the bridge is designed to withstand the formidable water flow of the Brahmaputra River.
