Assam: Dhubri school hosts anti-drug awareness session as 700 students take addiction-free pledge

The Dhubri unit of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya organised an awareness session on substance abuse at PM Shri Dhubri Government Girls' Higher Secondary School on August 7, as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging young people to stay away from addiction.

The programme was organised under the 10-Crore Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign, being conducted from August 6 to August 20, 2026, with more than 5,500 branches of the organisation participating across the country.

The campaign is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN, with the objective of raising awareness among young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Around 700 students from Classes 6 to 12 attended the awareness lecture, Academic In-Charge Biswajit Sarkar said.

The session highlighted the need for greater awareness and collective efforts to prevent substance abuse among adolescents and young people.

Subject teacher Purnima Saikia stressed the role of educational institutions and spiritual organisations in protecting young people from addiction and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Following the awareness session, the participating students collectively took a pledge to stay away from harmful substances and contribute towards creating an addiction-free environment in their schools and communities.

The organisers said the initiative was aimed at connecting local educational institutions with the larger national campaign against substance abuse and encouraging students to become ambassadors of an addiction-free society.
