Assam: Dibrugarh school faces scrutiny after multiple students allegedly sustain blade injuries, AASU demands impartial probe

A controversy has erupted at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Assam’s Dibrugarh after allegations surfaced that several Class VII students allegedly cut their hands with blades.

The students reportedly sustained injuries and were subsequently provided medical treatment. The injuries are understood to be non-serious, according to information available so far.

The incident has prompted questions over how multiple students sustained injuries on the school premises and whether the school authorities were aware of the incident when it occurred.

The Dibrugarh district administration has constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The committee has been directed to submit its report within seven days.

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has demanded an impartial investigation and said those found responsible should face action. The student organisation has also raised allegations that the school authorities attempted to suppress the matter.

Questions have also been raised over reports that the students may have been influenced or encouraged by one student. The AASU has sought clarity on the circumstances leading to the incident, including whether the student allegedly involved was experiencing any mental-health or other difficulties that required attention.

The Dibrugarh Students’ Union has also raised concerns over the incident and sought a thorough investigation into the matter.

The AASU has conveyed its concerns to the Dibrugarh district administration and the Inspector of Schools, calling for the circumstances leading to the injuries to be established through an impartial inquiry.
