Assam: Diju river swells again, second wave of flood in two weeks hits Nagaon–Karbi Anglong border

The Diju River, which flows along the boundary of Assam's Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts, has once again overflowed following heavy rainfall in the Karbi Hills, triggering fresh flooding across low-lying areas and compounding the hardship of communities already reeling from an earlier deluge.

The renewed spell of torrential rain has caused the river to swell rapidly, inundating Shiyalekhaiti, Kalapani and several other localities under the Amoni Revenue Circle in Nagaon district. Vast stretches of land have gone under water, with floodwaters entering residential areas and agricultural fields, disrupting daily life and livelihoods.

The latest flooding marks the second major inundation in the region within a span of two weeks, leaving residents facing recurring displacement and uncertainty. As waters spread across villages, families have once again been forced to contend with damaged homes, submerged farmland and restricted movement.

Agricultural fields, a key source of livelihood for many households in the area, remain under water, raising concerns over crop losses and the longer-term economic impact on local communities. The repeated flooding has also affected normal day-to-day activities, with residents struggling to cope with the recurring natural disaster.

Amid the fresh inundation, local residents have expressed concern that the situation could deteriorate further if rainfall continues over the coming days. With weather conditions remaining unsettled, anxiety is growing across flood-prone villages situated along the Diju River, where communities continue to monitor the rising water levels while hoping for an early improvement in conditions.
