Assam: Dima Hasao police bust major illegal fertilizer haul worth Rs 14.98 lakh

The Dima Hasao police recovered a large consignment of prohibited urea fertilizer worth approximately Rs 14,98,500 from a truck at Kalachand under the jurisdiction of Maibang Police Station.

According to police reports, on the evening of October 5, truck WB-65 E 1581 was found stationary on the roadside when it was struck by another vehicle. Upon receiving the report, police reached the location and took the truck driver and his handymen to the Kalachand Police Outpost for questioning. However, citing a need to have food, both the driver and the handymen abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

A detailed inspection of the truck revealed that, although it was carrying rice in transit, it was also loaded with fertilizer. The police seized a total of 29,970 kilograms of prohibited urea fertilizer, packed in 666 bags. The consignment is valued at around ₹14.98 lakh.

Maibang Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vaibhav Rawat confirmed the seizure, stating that police will continue their investigation to uncover the source and intended destination of the illegal cargo. He added that appropriate legal action will be initiated against those responsible for this violation under prevailing laws.
