Assam: Diphu river swells above danger mark, flash flood hits Karbi Anglong town, houses submerged

A sudden rise in the water level of the Diphu River has triggered flash flooding in several parts of Diphu town in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, inundating residential areas, roads and public spaces.

The Diphu River is currently flowing above the danger level, following a rapid increase in its water level. The sudden rise has affected several low-lying areas of the town, with floodwaters entering houses and disrupting movement and daily activities.

Areas including Shivbari, Panbari, Dharamnala, Pirbi Market and the Diphu Government Boys’ field have been submerged. Several residential properties have reportedly been waterlogged, while roads in the affected localities remain under water.

The flooding has also affected commercial activity, particularly around Pirbi Market, where waterlogging has disrupted normal business operations.

Residents in the affected areas reported that the water level rose rapidly, leaving little time for people in low-lying areas to respond. The situation has raised concerns over further inundation if the river continues to remain above the danger level.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation as floodwaters continue to affect parts of Diphu town.
