Assam: Drug bust in Karimganj yields Rs 115 crore haul, four arrested

A major drug seizure operation led by Assam Police has resulted in the confiscation of illegal substances valued at approximately Rs 115 crore. The operation, conducted in the bypass area of Karimganj district, also led to the arrest of four suspected traffickers.

IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Karimganj Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das spearheaded the joint operation. Law enforcement officials discovered 350,000 Yaba tablets concealed in a secret compartment near the gearbox of a truck (registration number NL/01/AC/4764). Additionally, 1.3 kilograms of suspected heroin were recovered from the vehicle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Naimul Haque (truck owner), Fuzail Ahmed, Atikur Rahman (driver), and Jagjit Dev Varma Barman (co-driver). Three of the suspects reside in the auction market area, while one hails from Tripura.

Authorities believe the narcotics originated in Mizoram. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as the investigation continues.

IGP Mahanta further stated that Naimul Haque's son is presently incarcerated in Karimganj jail for a separate drug-related offence.
