In a significant drug bust in Assam's Nagaon on Monday, narcotics worth over Rs 80 lakhs were confiscated and two individuals were apprehended, as per the police.

Nagaon Police executed an operation based on intel regarding a potential drug trade. During the operation, a vehicle was intercepted, leading to the discovery of the narcotics.

A thorough search of the Swift Dzire vehicle led to the discovery and confiscation of the drugs. Two individuals present in the car at the time were also detained on suspicion of smuggling the contraband.

A police officer stated that upon receiving intel, they initiated a check post. During the inspection, a car was halted and searched, leading to the discovery of the drugs.

Two individuals have been detained for smuggling the drugs, he added. On enquiring about the quantity and value of the seized contraband, the police official stated that the exact quantity is yet to be determined.

The estimated value of the seized items is over 80 lakhs, though the exact amount cannot be ascertained at this time. According to available information, while two smugglers were apprehended, one managed to escape.

The individuals detained by the police have been identified as Anarul Islam and Moinuddin Ahmed.

Furthermore, the officials disclosed that the drugs were being smuggled from Dimapur in Nagaland for distribution in Nagaon. The accused are currently undergoing legal proceedings.
