Assam: Dumper swept away by strong river current in Cachar's Madhura river, driver escapes

A dramatic and harrowing incident unfolded in the Madhura Shil Koyari area of Cachar district when a dumper was swept away by the powerful current of the Madhura river. 

The driver and handyman narrowly escaped with their lives by jumping off the vehicle just in time. The incident, captured on camera, highlights the escalating dangers posed by the region's rivers amid heavy rains.

The Madhura river's water level has risen significantly due to continuous heavy rainfall, causing powerful streams that have turned treacherous. 

This sudden surge has impacted every river in Cachar, including the Barak river, leading to widespread flooding. Several areas in the district are now submerged under floodwaters, exacerbating the local crisis.

On the day of the incident, the dumper was in the process of fetching stones from the koyari. Unexpectedly, the vehicle became stuck as the river's water level rose swiftly. 

Within moments, the dumper was overtaken by the fierce stream. Thankfully, the driver and the handyman managed to escape by jumping into the river and swimming to safety, avoiding what could have been a fatal accident.

The increased rainfall and subsequent flooding have created a critical situation in Cachar, with numerous communities facing the threat of rising waters and the destructive force of swollen rivers. 

Local authorities are on high alert, monitoring the situation closely and urging residents to take necessary precautions.
