Assam: Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession draws thousands in Silchar with focus on peace and harmony

Thousands of people participated in a grand Julus-e-Mohammadi in Silchar on Wednesday, August 26 to mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, commemorating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.

Organised by the Cachar District Central Julus-e-Mohammadi Celebration Committee, the procession was centred on messages of peace, communal harmony, brotherhood and humanity. It began at Kanakpur Eidgah and proceeded through Peshkar Jungle, Sonai Road and Shildubi before concluding at Bhuwaljuri Saheb Bari.

In accordance with the organisers’ instructions, trailers and large vehicles were not permitted in the procession. Madrasa students and young maulanas participated on foot, joined by more than 1,000 youths. Thousands of devotees from different parts of Silchar subsequently joined the procession on motorcycles and in small and medium-sized vehicles.

Students from Dawat-e-Islami India and several other madrasas also participated, contributing to the large turnout.

The procession passed through several areas of Silchar amid religious flags, illuminated decorations and elaborately decorated gates. Water, sherbet, sweets and fruits were distributed among participants at various points along the route.

More than 100 volunteers were deployed by the organising committee to regulate the movement of participants and assist with traffic management. The district administration also made security arrangements to ensure the procession proceeded peacefully.

At Bhuwaljuri Saheb Bari, the concluding venue, organisers held a Milad gathering, Naat-e-Rasool and a special prayer for world peace.

The organising committee expressed gratitude to the police, administration, volunteers and participants for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the procession. The event concluded with an emphasis on peace, communal harmony, brotherhood and humanity
