Assam: Elderly couple attacked in Dhubri by 'journalist' and accomplices
In an act of hooliganism, an elderly couple from East Batuatuli village under Golakganj police station in Dhubri district was brutally assaulted with sharp weapons, allegedly by a journalist of a local news portal and his family members.
The victims, identified as Askar Ali (60) and his wife Rupbhan Bibi (55), sustained severe injuries. Following the attack, their family members rushed them to Golakganj police station, where the officer-in-charge directed immediate hospitalization.
The couple was admitted to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, where their condition remains critical.
Eyewitness and victim’s daughter, Angu Khatun, alleged that the attack was carried out by three brothers—Mohibul Haque, Sadek Haque, and portal journalist Shahidul Haque—along with their mother, father, and sister.

The violence erupted when the elderly couple demanded repayment of money owed to their son by the accused, Khatun stated.
Shahidul Haque, who reportedly has a criminal background, was previously jailed in connection with a theft case registered at Golakganj police station. The victims’ family has strongly condemned the attack and demanded strict action from the police to ensure justice.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited. The attack has once again raised concerns over individuals misusing journalism as a cover for criminal activities.
