An elephant calf was rescued from the Sessa Tea Estate in Rangapara, Sonitpur district, Assam after being spotted near a forested area along Line No. 12.
The calf was first noticed by a group of young men who observed the animal wandering alone in the dense undergrowth, appearing disoriented and in distress.
Wildlife enthusiasts from the tea garden promptly intervened, approaching the elephant calf with caution to ensure a safe rescue. The calf was subsequently transported to the Adabari Tea Estate, a well-known habitat for elephants, where it was gently released back into the wild.
Local residents believe that the elephant calf may have become separated from its herd during the night, leading to its solitary wandering in search of its mother.
The incident has sparked concern and empathy among the community, underscoring the challenges faced by wildlife in areas where human habitation overlaps with natural elephant corridors.
