A fresh breach of embankment at Sribhumi, located in the Panchdali area of Anipur under Ramkrishnanagar constituency, has raised serious concerns among residents, as the swelling Singla River continues to erode riverbanks and infrastructure.
According to local reports, approximately 20 meters of the embankment have been washed away by the river's strong current, allowing a surge of water to enter nearby areas.
The breach is causing a rapid inflow of water, heightening the threat of widespread inundation across low-lying and adjacent settlements.
Villagers have expressed alarm over the deteriorating situation, fearing that more regions could soon be submerged if immediate repair and mitigation measures are not undertaken.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, while local residents have urged the district administration to take urgent action to prevent further damage.
The embankment breach is the latest in a series of monsoon-related incidents affecting Assam’s flood-prone districts.
