A 60-year-old grandmother was evicted from her home in Pancharatna, Goalpara, along with around 50 other families. Their homes were demolished during the harsh winter. Observers, including children searching for their textbooks, witnessed the event.
Many are questioning the justification provided by the forest department, stating the land is a reserve forest, suspecting a hidden agenda.
The Gauhati High Court had previously nullified a notification from the Assistant Bandavasti Authority of Balijana Revenue Circle on December 9, which had moved against the eviction.
However, allegations are surfacing that the administration evicted the inhabitants deliberately, stating the land belongs to a reserve forest.
The victims, who have lived on the land for several generations, are now homeless and questioning the motives behind the eviction.
