Assam: Eviction fear mounts in Goalpara’s Rakshasini village amid fresh survey activity

The tension sparked by recent eviction activities in Krishnai Bidyapara continues to ripple across Goalpara district, with the district administration now reportedly eyeing Rakshasini revenue village for a similar operation.

On Sunday, the sudden deployment of over a hundred personnel from the police and forest departments in the Rakshasini Jungle Block triggered widespread panic among local residents. Eyewitnesses report that officials marked several electric poles with an 'X' during what has been described as a land survey.

Sources from the administration confirmed that the survey was part of a broader land verification initiative. However, residents are expressing deep concern, especially as the area in question includes patta land—legally owned plots with land documents. Rakshasini Jungle Block is home to more than a thousand individuals with land pattas, many of whom now fear that eviction drives may not spare even legally settled households.

The heavy police presence and lack of prior communication have fueled anxiety, with villagers calling for clarity from the administration regarding the status of their lands and any upcoming eviction plans.

Locals urge the government to distinguish between encroached and legally owned lands before taking action, warning that indiscriminate evictions could displace hundreds of families.
