A powerful explosion ripped through a warehouse linked to notorious oil theft racketeer Abul Ali in Assam’s Sivasagar district, leaving two men critically.
The blast occurred in the Singha Duar area, under the jurisdiction of the Joysagar Police Outpost, reportedly inside a dumper truck parked behind a shop at Singha Duar Chariali. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS06BC3425, was allegedly fitted with a concealed tank for illicit fuel storage.
The injured have been identified as Abdul Jalil of No-Mati, Nazira — believed to be Abul Ali’s brother and a well-known figure in oil and cattle theft — and Mojakkir Ali of Bogi Dol. Both were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
According to police records, multiple criminal cases against Jalil Ali are pending in various stations across Upper Assam. He was also among Sivasagar Police’s most wanted suspects in a recent cattle theft case.
Local sources allege that the Abul-Jalil network enjoys close ties with several police officials in the district, raising questions about possible protection rackets and complicity in illegal oil pilferage operations.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosion or whether arrests have been made. An investigation is underway.
