Assam extends service of retired state award-winning teacher for one year
The Assam government has extended the service of a retired state award-winning teacher for one year under a special provision aimed at utilising the expertise of experienced educators.
Dr. Mizanur Rahman, former headmaster of Kaldoba High School in Agomani, Dhubri district, has been reinducted into service following his retirement on April 30, 2026.
Officials said the decision is part of a policy allowing select state award recipients in education to continue serving for a limited period after retirement. Under the provision, Dr. Rahman has been permitted to serve in any school within Dhubri district during the extended tenure.
Dr. Rahman was honoured by the Assam government in 2017 for excellence in teaching and institutional leadership. He also received national recognition the same year for his contribution to promoting transparency and accountability in schools.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening academic mentorship, improving institutional leadership, and supporting young teachers through the guidance of experienced educators, officials said.
Expressing gratitude over the extension, Dr. Rahman said teaching remained a lifelong commitment for him and he looked forward to returning to the classroom.
Local residents and members of the school management committee have welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive step for grassroots education.
