Assam: Fake anti-corruption officers arrested for extorting truckers in Bongaigaon

Seven men in Bongaigaon have been booked for impersonating Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials and raiding truckers on National Highway 27 connecting Chaprakata under Bongaigaon Sadar police station.

They allegedly tried to extort money from a truck driver hailing from Rajasthan.

As per the victim, shortly before the arrest, a passenger vehicle with "Police" written on the windshield, bearing registration number AS-01-EJ-6934 snatched the keys of the vehicle along with documents of a 14-wheeler bearing registration number RJ 02-GC-2834 on NH 27 connecting Chaprakata under Bongaigaon Sadar police station.

Later, Bongaigaon police came to know about the incident and immediately raided and managed to nab Bapan Debnath of Bijni, Shamla Basumatary of Kajalgaon and Niranjan Debnath, Bukho Narzary, Tarun Deori and Durga Narzary of Bongaigaon.

Police also seized the police-written Bolero vehicle.
