Assam: Fake candidate caught appearing for HSLC exam, forged admit card seized

A case of exam malpractice surfaced at the Datirbari Koragari Higher Secondary School Examination Center, where a fake candidate was caught appearing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam using a forged admit card.

The accused, Harunur Rashid, a former student of Harendra Chitra College, allegedly manipulated his date of birth to appear younger, intending to use the fake credentials to qualify for a police recruitment interview. Investigations have also linked Mohir Uddin, the headmaster of Koragari Pathar Regional High School, to the fraudulent activity, suggesting a broader network of malpractice.

Adding to the controversy, Arup Das, a professor at Harendra Chitra College, was on duty as an examiner at the center. Notably, Rashid was a former student of Das, raising questions about possible insider involvement.

Concerns have been raised regarding the negligence of examination authorities, as the fraud went undetected until after four subjects had already been completed. This incident has reignited scrutiny over the exam center, which has previously faced allegations of facilitating cheating. Notably, a similar case of a fake candidate being arrested was reported at the same center two years ago.
