Assam: Family alleges wrongful eviction after lat mandal's 'erroneous report' misled Nagaon administration

A family in Assam's Nagaon district has alleged that it was wrongly evicted after revenue officials allegedly submitted an erroneous report, leading the district administration to demolish their ancestral home despite there being no land dispute or court case involving the property.

The incident took place at West Singimari village under Laokhowa Mouza in the Samaguri Revenue Circle, where the administration carried out an eviction drive at the residence of Abdul Kadir.

According to the family, a long-standing land dispute exists between Abdul Kadir and one Abdus Samad. However, they alleged that while Samad had purchased a separate plot of land, the eviction was instead carried out on Kadir's ancestral property.

Abdul Kadir claimed that the eviction was the result of an incorrect report submitted by the Lat Mandal (revenue official), which allegedly misled the administration into demolishing his house even though there was no legal dispute or pending case concerning the land.

He further alleged that the Lat Mandal and the Nazir (court/revenue official) directed the administration to carry out the eviction on the wrong property, bypassing the actual land under dispute.

The family has demanded a fair investigation into the incident, alleging that their ancestral house was demolished while the land reportedly purchased by Abdus Samad remained untouched.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement responding to the allegations.
