Assam: Farm-focused campaign kicks off in Kokrajhar to boost grassroots agriculture

A major agriculture outreach initiative, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, began today in Kokrajhar with a focus on connecting directly with farmers and addressing challenges at the grassroots level. The programme, part of a nationwide drive guided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, aims to strengthen local agricultural systems and facilitate on-the-ground problem-solving through direct interaction.

The campaign was officially launched by Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary and Gossaigaon MLA Jiron Basumatary at the East Maligaon VCDC Office in Bishmuri. It will run through June 12, reaching farmers across all Development Blocks in the district.

Led by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kokrajhar, the campaign is being implemented in coordination with Assam Agricultural University and various state departments, including Agriculture, Veterinary, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, along with the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM).

Officials said the initiative is designed to bring farmers face-to-face with agricultural scientists and government representatives to discuss issues, share knowledge, and build awareness of existing development schemes. By doing so, it hopes to create a feedback loop that leads to more effective policy implementation on the ground.

Today’s event saw participation from District Agriculture Officer Diganta Thapa, ASRLM Scheme Officer Bichitra Birjay Narzary, and a strong turnout from local farmers, marking a promising start to the two-week campaign.
