In the enchanting lap of Assam’s natural beauty, farmers who rely on vegetable cultivation for their livelihood are facing unbearable hardships.
The soaring prices of essential commodities have pushed daily survival to the brink, yet these farmers are being forced to discard their fresh produce in Jagun’s daily market due to unjust pricing and a lack of fair returns.
Every morning, hardworking farmers bring fresh vegetables and fruits grown through intense labor to the Jagun market. However, due to the dominance of middlemen and irregular pricing mechanisms, they are unable to secure fair prices for their produce.

Several farmers have voiced concerns that the prices offered are so low that they don’t even cover their production costs.
As a result, they are often left with no option but to throw away unsold vegetables — a deeply distressing outcome for those whose lives depend on agriculture.
This recurring scene highlights a major issue affecting Assam’s agrarian community, underscoring the urgent need for better market regulation, removal of exploitative middlemen, and a support system to ensure that farmers receive just compensation for their hard-earned produce.
