In a heart-wrenching tragedy in the Dharmkhal area of Silcoorie, a father and his three-year-old son lost their lives due to the alleged gross negligence of the electricity department.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, with residents expressing deep anger over the repeated inaction of the authorities.
The victims, 38-year-old Pawan Kumar Mala and his son Vicky Mala, were electrocuted after a live wire fell from an electric pole outside their home.
According to local sources, the electric line to the house had been disconnected two years ago, but the job was left incomplete. The faulty line continued to pose a threat, and despite multiple complaints to the power department, no action was taken.

The tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning when a live wire from a nearby pole snapped and fell, instantly killing Pawan and little Vicky.
“This is a result of pure negligence,” said neighbour Vijay Kumar Mala. “We had complained to the power office many times, but they only gave verbal assurances. No actual repairs were ever done.”
The bodies have been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, residents are demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the responsible officials.
The incident has once again brought to light the poor maintenance and apathy of the electricity department.
Locals say it is high time that authorities prioritise public safety and take urgent corrective measures to prevent such preventable tragedies.
