Assam: Fierce storm batters Teok's Rajabari Pukhuriporia, disrupts power supply

A violent storm that swept through the Rajabari Namchuk Pukhuriporia area of Teok late last night, May 7 has left a trail of destruction, disrupting daily life and essential services.

Pukhuriporia Primary School, the only educational institution in the area, bore the brunt of the storm when a massive tree was uprooted and fell onto the school premises. The impact tore off its tin roof and caused extensive damage, forcing authorities to suspend classes for the day.

In nearby residential areas, the storm brought further devastation. A large tree collapsed onto a concrete house, breaking through its sturdy walls and injuring several family members. Other homes were left exposed as strong winds ripped off tin roofs, resulting in the destruction of household belongings, including furniture, books, and important documents.

The fury of the storm also brought down numerous trees, blocking the vital Rajabari-Mudaijan connecting road and cutting off access. The entire region has been plunged into darkness as the power supply remains disrupted.

In the aftermath, local residents and youth groups have come forward to assist affected families, offering relief and clearing debris since early morning. Community leaders have also appealed to government authorities for immediate intervention and support to rehabilitate the storm-hit families and restore normalcy in the area.
