Assam: Firearms recovered near bridge in Kaliabor, police probe underway

Police on Thursday, December 18 recovered a firearm from Kaliabor, triggering fresh concerns over weapon security in the area. The gun was found lying by the roadside under a bridge, officials said.

According to police sources, a passerby spotted the weapon and promptly alerted Kaliabor police, following which a police team reached the location and took custody of the firearm.

The circumstances under which the gun ended up at the site remain unclear, and police have described the incident as suspicious.

Officials further revealed that a firearm had gone missing a few days ago from the custody of a jawan at the Silghat outpost. Investigators are examining whether the weapon recovered at Kaliabor is linked to that incident.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain how the firearm reached the spot and to confirm its ownership.
